BARBECUE BONES DOG TREATS

1 1/3 cups whole wheat flour

1/2 cup wheat germ

1/3 cup old-fashioned oats

1/3 cup barbecue sauce

1/4 cup oil

1 egg

1/4 cup water

1/4 cup yellow cornmeal

 

place first 3 ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. blend with a whisk.

add barbecue sauce, oil, egg and water. mix.

sprinkle half of the cornmeal over a sheet of waxed paper. place dough on waxed paper. sprinkle remaining corn meal on top of dough. roll out to 1/4″ thickness.

cut with 2 1/2″ cookie cutters or cut into rectangles

place on sprayed baking sheet. bake at 350 degree for 30 minutes (40 minutes for a harder treat.)

MAKES 22-26 treats

CLUCK CLUCK DOG TREATS

2 cups white flour
1 cup yellow cornmeal
3/4 cup chicken broth (canned OR homemade)
1/4 cup oil
1 egg
1/4 cup more cornmeal

place dry ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. blend with a whisk.

add chicken broth, oil and egg. mix. dough will be sticky.

sprinkle half of the 1/4 cup cornmeal over a sheet of waxed paper. place dough on waxed paper and pat it out to 1/4″ thickness. as you pat, sprinkle more cornmeal over the dough and on your hands to make patting easier.

cut with 2 1/2″ cookie cutters or cut into rectangles.

place on sprayed baking sheet. bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

makes 30-36 treats

HONEY OAT DOG TREATS

2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup water
2 eggs
1/4 cup yellow cornmeal

place first 5 ingredients in30 a medium mixing bowl. blend with a whisk.

add honey, water and eggs. mix. dough will be sticky.

sprinkle half of the cornmeal over a sheet of waxed paper and pat it out to 1/4″ thickness. as you pat, sprinkle more cornmeal over the dough and on your hands to make it easier.

cut with 2 1/2″ cookie cutters or cut into rectangles.

place on a sprayed baking sheet. bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. (40 minutes for a harder treat.)

BOW WOW BACON BALLS

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup unprocessed wheat bran (also called miller’s bran – cereal aisle)
1 (2-3 oz) jar OR bag real bacon bits (salad dressing aisle – don’t get crunchy bacos type)
1 egg
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup water

place first 3 ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. blend with a whisk.

add egg, oil and water. mix. dough will be sticky.

shape into balls the size of small pecans (make smaller balls for smaller dogs.) place on a sprayed baking sheet.

bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.

CINNAMON OATMEAL DOG TREATS

1 cup white flour
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
½ cup old-fashioned oats
¾ tsp cinnamon
1 cup hot water
¼ cup oil

Place dry ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. Blend with a whisk.

Add hot water and oil. Mix.

Place dough on waxed paper. Knead for 3 minutes.

Roll 1/4” thick. Cut with 2 1/2” round cookie cutters or cut into rectangles.

Place on a sprayed baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Makes 32-36 treats

DOGGIE PIZZA TREATS

2 cups whole wheat flour
¼ cup yellow cornmeal
¾ cup water
¼ cup oil
½ cup tomato paste
½ tsp garlic powder
fresh parsley

Place flour and cornmeal into a medium mixing bowl. Blend with a whisk.

Add water and oil. Mix.

Place dough onto waxed paper. Knead for 2-3 minutes until smooth.

Roll 1/4” thick. Cut with 2 ½” round cookie cutters.

Mix garlic powder into tomato paste. Spread a little tomato paste evenly over tops of each circle and press a little chopped parsley into tomato paste.

Place on a sprayed baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

Makes 24-30 treats

FOUR-INGREDIENT CHEESY TREATS FOR DOGS

1 (8 oz) bag shredded cheddar cheese (2 cups)
2 cups whole wheat flour
½ cup oil
½ cup milk

Place cheddar cheese and flour into a medium mixing bowl. Blend with a whisk.

Add oil and milk. Mix.

Place dough on waxed paper. Knead 1 minute.

Roll to 1/4” thickness. Cut with 2 1/2” cookie cutters or cut into rectangles.

Place on a sprayed baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

Makes 24-30 treats

PEANUT BUTTER POOCHIE TREATS

1 ½ cups white flour
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 cup hot water
½ cup peanut butter
¼ cup yellow cornmeal

Place both flours in a medium mixing bowl. Blend with a whisk.

Add hot water and mix.

Add peanut butter and mix until blended. Knead for 3 minutes.

Sprinkle half of the cornmeal evenly over a sheet of waxed paper. Place dough in the center.

Sprinkle remaining cornmeal evenly over the top of the dough.

Roll to 1/4” thickness. Cut with 2 1/2” cookie cutters or cut into rectangles.

Place on a sprayed baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. (For harder treats, bake for 40 minutes.)

HOMEMADE DOGGIE ICE CREAM TREATS

Mash 3 ripe bananas. Mix in 1 cup peanut butter. Add 1 (32 oz) container of plain yogurt. Mix all together by hand, until blended. Pour in either ice cube trays, or small plastic cups (disposable) put on cookie sheet and freeze. Once frozen put in zip lock baggies for quick doggie treats. If you would rather, you can just put mixture in ice cube trays and freeze.

APPLE CINNAMON DROPS

1 large apple
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup oatmeal
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/8 cup whole wheat flour

preheat oven to 350 degrees.

core, slice and mince the apple (use a food processor if you have
one). in a large bowl, combine the minced apple bits, honey, water,
cinnamon, and oatmeal. gradually blend in the wheat flour, adding
enough to form a stiff dough.

in a small bowl, add 1/8 cup wheat flour. spoon the dough by rounded
teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing about 2″
apart. using the bottom of a glass dipped in the wheat flour (to
prevent sticking), flatten each spoonful of dough into a circle.
adjust the size of the drops based on how big a treat you like to feed
your dog.

bake for 30 minutes. remove from oven and flip each cookie to brown
evenly on both sides. Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees.
return to oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes. let cool
overnight.

makes about 3 dozen crunchy cookies, depending on how big you make them.
